Steps to Adoption

In every cases, a property study is typically necessary. A social worker will meet with you and other immediate members of the family in your home to take stock of your household dynamics, to explore your reasons for attempting to adopt, and to make sure that your home is safe and suited to a child—that you do not live in a one-bedroom condo on the 11th floor of a high-rise with no available play area, for example. The high-rise mightn't disqualify you, nevertheless the single bedroom would probably require moving to a more suitable home.

Most adoptions also require background checks and certification from your own physician that you never suffer from a health condition that could keep you from caring for a child.

The idea isn't to prohibit you from becoming an adoptive parent but to ensure the safety and well-being of the child you take in.

You'll then proceed through the legal steps of adopting, culminating in a court appearance where in fact the adoption is approved by a judge and finalized. The court will name you—the adoptive parent—as the child's legal parent in place of the biological parent or parents. Biological parents must sign off on the legal parental rights before an adoption can go through.

Attachment theory, through the Circle of Security®, offers clear, individualized pathways for providing a protected relationship between parent and child.

Every child comes into the entire world seeking a safe relationship with her/his caregivers. The Circle of Security® program helps promote that security.

Parent Portal fisd On Guaynabo, A secure attachment between child and caregiver is crucial to a child's current and future well being. University-based research has shown that secure children have increased empathy, greater self-confidence, better relationships with parents and peers, enter school more ready to understand, and are able to handle their emotions much better than their less secure peers. While they grow older, secure children become less inclined to live in poverty, have legal problems, or experience chronic emotional difficulties.
